Exit polls show no clear winner in Israel's electiondeveloping

Exit polls after Israel's national election on Tuesday suggest neither Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's bloc nor the opposition alliance led by former military chief Gadi Eisenkot reached the 61 seats needed for a majority in the 120-seat Knesset. Exit polls can be wrong and final results may differ. Turnout was the highest in decades, according to the Central Elections Committee. Without a majority, weeks of coalition talks or another election are possible.

Netanyahu saysBefore the exit polls, Netanyahu called it "a very moving and fateful moment" and warned of heavy turnout for Arab parties. Supporters see him as a steady wartime leader.
Eisenkot saysEisenkot urged voters to replace "the worst government Israel has known" and to ignore what he called Netanyahu's "scare tactics." Critics cite Netanyahu's corruption trial and his handling of the Gaza war.

Supreme Court won't restore rule letting immigration judges pause deportation casesconfirmed

The Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to reinstate immigration judges' power to temporarily pause some deportation cases, a practice called administrative closure. The one-sentence order, with no public dissent, denied an emergency request from Baltimore, Columbus, Ohio, New Haven, Connecticut, and the group Centro Legal de la Raza. It leaves in place an agreement between Texas and the Trump administration that blocked a 2024 Biden-era rule. Reuters reports the practice has been used in hundreds of thousands of cases.

Texas and the administration sayThe practice let immigrants without legal status stay indefinitely; Texas argued it let judges "effectively grant indefinite amnesty." The Justice Department said the cities lacked standing.
The cities and advocates sayThe rule helped crime victims and neglected juveniles, and the administration used "manufactured litigation" with Texas to scrap it without public rulemaking.
