East Texas A&M, picked last in the Southland Conference preseason poll, beat Oklahoma 68-64 in Norman on Monday, Nov. 2, in Oklahoma's season opener. Oklahoma was a 28.5-point favorite; ESPN Research ranks it the second-largest Division I upset by point spread in 30 years, behind Eastern Illinois over Iowa in 2022. The loss ended Oklahoma's streak of 30 straight nonconference home wins, and coach Porter Moser apologized to the fan base.
