U.S. ban on nearly $1 billion in Canadian imports takes effect

A U.S. ban on about $967 million a year in Canadian imports took effect at 12:01 a.m. Eastern on Tuesday. Nearly 90% of the banned goods are alcoholic drinks such as beer, whisky and wine; some motorcycles and whey-based foods are also covered.
