France says targeted curfews brought a calm night after riots
Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said "targeted curfews have contributed to the calm" overnight after a weekend of riots and looting. Partial curfews took effect Monday night in Paris, Bordeaux and Nice, and Lecornu said prefects and mayors will set new curfews where needed. Police reported no major incidents. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said 2,513 people had been taken into custody, ABC News reports. The unrest grew out of weeks of student-led protests and widened into anger over the cost of living.
