Serbia's Vucic concedes defeat to the student-led Students' List
Aleksandar Vucic conceded defeat in Serbia's snap parliamentary election on Sunday, about an hour and a half after polls closed. "The Students' List has won," he told supporters. His party projects the youth-backed Students' List will win 135 to 140 of the 250 seats in parliament and his Serbian Progressive Party about 105; results are not final. The vote followed almost two years of protests that began after a train station canopy collapsed in Novi Sad in 2024, killing 16 people. Vucic blamed independent media, alleged interference by unnamed European countries and an "American deep state" for the loss. Independent monitors reported dozens of irregularities, including attempted vote buying.
