The U.K. imposed travel bans and asset freezes on 15 commanders, militia leaders and security officials from both the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese army, citing sexual violence, torture and attacks on civilians linked to the fall of el-Fasher. Why it matters
The sanctions bar the 15 men from travel to the U.K. and freeze their assets there. The new aid, 5 million pounds for survivors of sexual violence and 10 million pounds in humanitarian help, is aimed at civilians in a war the U.K. foreign secretary calls a humanitarian catastrophe.
