Iran receives U.S. response to its seven-day plan through Qatari mediatorsdeveloping

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi received the U.S. response to Iran's seven-day trust-building plan from Qatari mediators in Doha on Tuesday, Reuters reports. The plan is meant to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and lead to talks on Iran's nuclear program. An official briefed on the talks told Reuters, "The disagreement centres on the sequencing of the steps rather than the components of the plan." Araghchi is expected to brief Iran's leadership in Tehran on Wednesday. President Trump had earlier rejected Iran's initial proposal.

The U.S. saysA U.S. official described recent talks as "positive and constructive" but said there would be no agreement unless Iran's nuclear program is addressed, according to Al Jazeera.
Iran saysForeign Minister Abbas Araghchi said, "I state firmly that there has been no change in Iran's position. Our conditions for opening the strait are clear." Those conditions include sanctions relief, unfreezing assets and lifting the naval blockade.

About 440 detained as French student protests turn violentconfirmed

French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said about 440 people, mostly minors, were detained on Tuesday as high school protests over class sizes, teacher shortages and long timetables spread across France. The Education Ministry said about 400 of the country's roughly 3,700 high schools were disrupted. Education Minister Edouard Geffray said 76 people have been injured in the protests, and police reported seven cases of hydrochloric acid thrown at officers. The protests coincided with a public-sector strike ahead of the 2027 budget.

Students sayProtesters say classes are overcrowded, teachers are in short supply and school days are too long. One placard read: "8am-6pm. More hours of lessons than sleep."
The government saysOfficials say the problems in high schools are real and need to be addressed, but Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu called any escalation "irresponsible" and accused the hard-left France Unbowed party of encouraging the protests.
