UAE Attorney General Hamad Saif Al Shamsi said the co-pilot of an Israel-bound flydubai flight attempted to carry out a terrorist attack, attacking the captain inside the cockpit with a crash axe and trying to take control of the plane. Passengers and crew subdued him and the plane landed in Saudi Arabia. The co-pilot, identified by AP and Reuters sources as Omani national Hammam al-Hammami, had earlier been barred from flying by Oman over concerns about extremist views, AP reports. Investigators say they are still examining motives and evidence.
