Pope Leo XIV to have surgery to remove a lung nodule

Pope Leo XIV, 71, announced during his Sunday noon blessing that doctors found a small, localized nodule in his lung at a very early stage, and that he will have surgery to remove it. The Vatican says the operation at Rome's Gemelli hospital is planned for the first days of the week, with about a week of recovery. The Vatican has not said whether the nodule is cancerous. A trip to Uruguay, Argentina and Peru is planned for November.
