Rashad al-Alimi, the Saudi-backed head of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council, announced in a televised address Sunday a military operation to retake territory held by the Iran-backed Houthis. The Saudi-led coalition is providing air support. The Houthis said they fired missiles and drones at two Saudi Aramco sites; Saudi Arabia had not responded at the time of reporting. Casualty claims from both sides could not be independently verified.
Yemen's government saysAl-Alimi cited the Houthis' "continued mobilization, escalation and attacks" and threats to civilians and shipping, and ordered forces to act "until the country is liberated from the Houthis."
The Houthis saySpokesman Yahya Saree said the group fired ballistic missiles and drones at Aramco sites in Riyadh and near Khurais.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Sunday in Kyiv, alongside German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, that the U.S. is proposing technical-level talks in a three-way format with Russia by the end of October, and that Ukraine is ready to support that timeline. He said Ukraine is open to the United Arab Emirates or another country proposed by the U.S. The Kremlin said last month it did not rule out such talks.

The New England Patriots beat the Buffalo Bills 29-26 in Buffalo. Drake Maye threw a late 23-yard touchdown pass to Efton Chism, followed by a two-point conversion, and safety Craig Woodson intercepted Josh Allen to seal it. The Bills fell to 3-1 and the Patriots improved to 2-2.
