Supreme Court sounds skeptical of Boulder's climate lawsuit

On the first day of its new term, the Supreme Court heard Suncor Energy v. Boulder County, which asks whether local governments can sue energy companies in state court over climate damage. Several conservative justices sounded skeptical of letting the case go forward. Chief Justice John Roberts asked whether, if Boulder wins, 'a municipality in every single state will file a lawsuit.' Justice Samuel Alito sat out the case. A decision is expected in the coming months; more than 30 similar suits are waiting on it.
