WWF: monitored wildlife populations down 73% on average since 1970

WWF's Living Planet Report 2026 finds monitored vertebrate wildlife populations fell an average of 73% between 1970 and 2022, with freshwater species down 85%. The report also highlights recoveries: WWF says wild tiger numbers rose from about 3,200 in 2010 to around 5,700 in 2025, and green sea turtles were downlisted to Least Concern.
