Magnitude 7.7 earthquake shakes Panama
A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck Herrera province in Panama on Oct. 9, the USGS said, followed by a 6.6 quake and dozens of aftershocks. Several people were injured, with no deaths immediately reported; churches were damaged and the Panama Canal kept operating.
