Isaias became a major Category 3 hurricane Friday morning with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph. Landfall is expected Friday night on the northern Gulf Coast, near the western Florida Panhandle. Forecasters warn of up to 9 feet of storm surge in parts of the Florida Panhandle, heavy rain and tornadoes. Isaias became the Atlantic season's first hurricane on Wednesday, one of the latest season starts on record.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey nominated interim Police Chief Bill Peterson, a 30-year department veteran, to lead the Minneapolis Police Department permanently.
